Last weekend my box got an upgrade as a birthday gift from my wife. The new hardwares include a Athlon 3000+, a ASAU A8N5X motherboard, and a Gitabyte 7300GS display card. Of cause I choosed the hardware
After replacing the old CY 1.7 CPU and motherboard, there comes a problem: the old power supply comes with a 20pin interface but the new motherboard requires a 24pin interface. After searching the internet I found my old one is refered to version 1.3 and the new one is 2.0. Hmmm, this is the IT world, even hardware interface got version numbers
Nearly decided to buy a new power supply but thinkin about backward compitablizy… After asking around on SMTH I was told it is OKK to use the old power supply, as long as it can supply enough power.
OK, let’s give it a try….. The first couple times it boots well. But after I packed up the box, it won’t boot. And the beep is a long, short, short, short. Looking up Award BIOS infos…. It’s a keyboard controller error. Is something wrong with that? Again according to suggestions on SMTH, I pulled and pluged everything, and now everything works fine
Install the FreeBSD 6.1 pre-release… Everything is good. The system becomes so fast that I can’t tell what it is doing by staring at the make output
The nvidia-drivers port support my 7300GS card pretty good, though it’s not listed in the README file. Now I can run xrandr to rotate my screen, and get a much better screen for code
